Three-year-olds through fourth-graders are engaged in learning activities that stimulate them socially, emotionally, and intellectually as they begin their journey of lifelong learning. Learning occurs both indoors and outdoors with classroom activities extending into our playground, utilized as an outdoor classroom.
Preschool Lead Teacher
Kaitlyn Maysa Naily graduated in May 2014 from Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow, OK with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education with a major in Early Childhood. She is fully certified by the state of Oklahoma to teach any age from birth through third grade. She is currently a member of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). She attended Peace Academy from preschool until she graduated in 2010. She has a sister in 6th grade at Peace Academy and another that graduated in 2014.

Shahna Parvez Zahir is a CDA-licensed preschool teacher. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, English Literature, English Language, and Indian History from Rohilkhand University, India and is currently an assistant preschool teacher at Peace Academy. She has taught preschool at Peace Academy for the past 17 years and has been with Peace Academy for over 20 years. A strong advocate for learning, she involves her students in activities appealing to all types of learners. Her professional interests focus on child development and current projects include furthering education by taking classes. She has completed her CDA and is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In addition, she serves as an avid volunteer for Tulsa Islamic School (Sunday School) and is a member of the Election Committee for Islamic Society of Tulsa. She was the first teacher honored with Teacher of the Year Award for her contributions to Peace Academy. She loves to spend her extra time (when she has any) reading and traveling!
Preschool Teacher Assistant
Samreen Khan is an Assistant Teacher for preschool with over 2 years of teaching experience. Samreen is currently working towards her certification with the Child Development Association (CDA). She received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and Education from Karachi University, Pakistan in 2000. She loves working with the youngest students, and she comes from a strong background in education as her mother was also a teacher for 20+ years. Prior to her current role at Peace Academy, she was an active member of the PTO and assisted in the remodeling of the new library.
Aleta Alterkawi is the Early Childhood Administrator and Kindergarten Teacher at Peace Academy, and she is certified as Highly Qualified in early childhood education by the OKSDE. She has been teaching for over 9 years and has been involved with Peace Academy as a parent, volunteer and/or teacher since 1998. She graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. She participated in a research-based Early Childhood Education Program and has had the opportunity to serve and learn as an intern at several, private and public schools in the Tulsa area.
She and her husband have four children. Her eldest child graduated from Peace Academy in 2012, and her other children will be 11th and 6th grade next year. Her youngest is almost two and will join Peace Academy next fall, God willing.
Early Childhood Islam
Early Childhood Arabic & Quran
Bannan Sarhan is currently teaching Arabic, Quran, and Islam to preschool, kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students at Peace Academy. She received her high school diploma from Syria and has over 4 years of teaching experience. She is a strong advocate of hands-on, inquiry-based learning, and as a wife and a mother of five, she treasures family values and involves her students in hands-on activities that promote love, friendship, and compassion. She is currently working on her Bachelor’s degree in Education at Tulsa Community College.
Her professional interests include communicative approaches to language teaching and cooperative learning. She tries to make her students’ path to knowledge easier and offers tutoring services in and out of the school. Bannan loves teaching young students and is very passionate about her job. She works very well with kids of all ages. She has been working at Peace Academy for the past 4 years and hopes to continue teaching for many years to come.
